Located in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire, SAU #23 proudly serves the communities of Bath, Benton, Haverhill, Piermont, and Warren.


The school administrative unit, which educates approximately 750 students in Pre-K to Grade 12, comprises six schools:

Bath Village School, Grades K-6

Piermont Village School, Grades PreK-8

Warren Village School, Grades PreK-8

Woodsville Elementary, Grades PreK-3

Haverhill Cooperative Middle School, Grades 4-8

Woodsville High School, Grades 9-12

About the Position

The SAU #23 Business Administrator reports to the Superintendent of Schools and works collaboratively with the Districts’ Leadership Teams. This individual is responsible for the planning, management and coordination of the Districts’ fiscal and operating services, and other resources necessary to support the instruction of students.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


The internal management of the districts’ finances, including budgeting, purchasing, and accounting practices and systems.

Review, approval, and maintenance of accurate expenditure and other records, per state law, to ensure proper and timely financial reporting to local, state, and federal agencies, including annual end-of-the-year and grant reports.

Preparation of the annual budgets for the Superintendent, taking into consideration long term fiscal planning, projected receipts, and budgetary controls and reporting to other governmental units. Communication with the School Boards, Leadership Teams and advisory committees throughout the budget process. Fulfillment of requests from the general public for financial information.

Establishment and maintenance of systems to manage the approved budget including the general fund,  grants, revolving accounts, long-range capital programs, reporting, short-term management, and auditing procedures.

Preparation of appropriate financial reporting information monthly, or upon request, to the School Boards and Superintendent to assist in the decision-making process, including collective bargaining.

Assisting the Leadership Team and Special Education Director with budgeting and reporting.

Review of the purchasing process to make sure that it is accurate, timely and efficient.

Coordination with the leadership staff for the procurement and management of supply contracts.

Oversee Business Office personnel and their work, tuition and grant management, accounts payable, and human resources/payroll.


Desired Qualifications

New Hampshire licensure as a School Business Administrator or evidence of education commiserate with certification through NHASBO

Working knowledge of municipal financial and payroll systems

Master level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to perform robust financial analyses

Thorough knowledge of public-school finance, including knowledge of and state law governing the financing of public schools, and a broad working knowledge of state funding for public education, accounting, municipal business practices, budget development and financial forecasting

Demonstrated experience as a School Business Administrator, Business Manager, Finance Director, or similar position

Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision-making

Effective administrative and management skills

Excellent speaking and writing skills

Thorough knowledge of effective utilization of technology, and information management tools

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable


For this position, SAU #23 is offering a regionally competitive annual salary along with a competitive benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience (starting at $105,000). Review of applications will begin on March 6, 2026. An appointment is expected by early April 2026, and the expected start date for the new Business Administrator is July 1, 2026.
