Join educators from across the United States for an immersive international professional learning experience exploring how Portugal uses its coastline, history, science, culture, and communities to prepare students and citizens for an increasingly interconnected world.

Through exclusive educational partnerships, field-based learning, and cultural immersion, participants will discover practical strategies for creating authentic, interdisciplinary learning experiences that inspire curiosity, global competence, and student engagement.

AESA Educators Field Study: Portugal Highlights

Throughout the field study, participants will experience Portugal as a living classroom through educational visits, cultural exploration, and field-based learning.

• Explore marine life at the Oceanário de Lisboa and hands-on STEM learning at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento.

• Examine sustainable urban design in Parque das Nações and Portugal’s maritime history in Belém.

• Explore coastal ecology and environmental stewardship along the Atlantic coastline of Cascais.

• Discover Peniche’s fishing traditions, food systems, and the journey from ocean to table.

• Visit the Berlengas Nature Reserve to explore marine conservation and biodiversity.

• Discover how the Douro River, architecture, commerce, and UNESCO heritage have shaped Porto.

• Conclude with an expert exchange featuring practical ideas to bring back to schools and communities.

Pricing
Program cost & Payment policy
  • Total program cost: USD $5,600 per participant
  • Deposit: USD $1,800 per participant (non-refundable). Due before November 15, 2026.
  • Remaining balance: USD $3,800 per participant. Due before March 1, 2027.

Price includes:

  • Round-trip international airfare
  • 3–4-star hotel accommodations
  • Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner
