Department of Labor Releases Final Overtime Rule: What It Means for Organizations 

Earlier this week, the Department of Labor issued its final rule altering the overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The rule includes two-tiered increases to the minimum salary threshold and the threshold for highly-compensated employees.

New Title IX Regulations Finalized- Effective Aug 1  

The U.S. Department of Education released revisions to Title IX on April 19, 2024. The amended Title IX regulations, which will be effective on August 1, 2024, make several important changes to the processes K-12 schools use to address reports of sex-based discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, and to protections for LGBTQ+ students, employees, and parents. The good news is that most school districts were already addressing complaints of other types of sex-based misconduct through local policy, and the new regulations provide some limits on responsibilities with respect to off-campus behavior. Continuing through May and June, the Public Interest Privacy Center (PIPC) will be holding a webinar series on the changes in the student and child privacy landscape and providing insights into child and student privacy issues happening now.

K12 AI Readiness Assessment

From Amazon Web Services (AWS) 

With more than half of students in the US increasing their use of generative AI tools, school leaders are working to get ahead of the trend. The conversation is not one to ignore and should be had sooner rather than later.

 

To help districts work through readiness, the Consortium of School Networks (CoSN), Council of Great City Schools (CoGCS), and AWS worked together with districts to create a K12 Readiness Assessment covering six (6) domains/operational areas.
