Federal Advocacy Update

AESA Joins School and Library Groups in Amicus Supporting E-Rate  

AESA joined 10 other national organizations in an amicus brief, responding to the Molak v FCC case in the fifth circuit in support of the FCC. The Molak case asserts the FCC is overstepping its authority in its recent move to allow E-Rate dollars to be used for Wi-Fi on buses. AESA Urges Department of Labor to Delay Implementation of OT Rule 

AESA joined 95 other national organizations in a letter to the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division requesting that DOL stay implementation of the overtime final rule to allow for judicial review. The letter is part of AESA's ongoing advocacy around the recent DOL rule, which both increases the cap for overtime and establishes regular updates. PIPC Webinar Series on Student and Child Privacy  

Through April, May and June, Public Interest Privacy Center (PIPC) is holding a webinar series on the changes in the student and child privacy landscape and providing insights into child and student privacy issues happening now.  

FCC Adopts $200 Million Cybersecurity Pilot Program  

On June 6, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced the adoption of a three-year, $200 million Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program, providing funds to participating schools and libraries to defray the costs of eligible cybersecurity services and equipment in four categories: advanced or next-generation firewalls, endpoint protection, identity protection and authentication, and monitoring, detection, and response.
