Federal Advocacy Updates

Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)'s 2024 National Summit on K-12 School Safety and Security 

This two-day, virtual event brings together K-12 school leaders and practitioners to discuss and share actionable recommendations that enhance safe and supportive learning environments. The Summit is designed to foster a nationwide dialogue on some of the most critical school safety issues, as well as equip school stakeholders and personnel with resources, training, and best practices to apply in their local school settings and communities. 
  

 

CISA Webinar Series: Enhancing Cyber Supply Chain Assurance

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) invites you to attend a two-part webinar series on Enhancing Cyber Supply Chain Assurance: Secure Software Acquisition Guide. Join experts from the Information and Communications Technology Supply Chain Risk Management Task Force as they discuss their latest publication, Software Acquisition Guide for Government Enterprise Consumers: Software Assurance in the Cyber-Supply Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) Lifecycle.

 

The guide is designed to help organizations increase supply chain resilience through software assurance, consolidating relevant guidance and frameworks into one document. It also provides key questions that organizations should address to mitigate risks associated with third-party software.

FCC Announces Application Window for Cybersecurity Pilot

The FCC announced that the application window for its $200 million cybersecurity pilot program will be open from September 17 to November 1, and provided guidance on how district leaders should submit their applications. 

 

White House Announces New Actions to Drive Academic Success

The White House announced a series of new Administration actions to help drive academic success by addressing reading interventions, comprehensive assessment systems, resources to combat chronic absenteeism, including the founding of the Student Attendance and Engagement Solutions Network and the upcoming release of a new messaging toolkit developed by the Ad Council.

 

USED Releases School Improvement Guidance

USED issued new draft Title I school improvement guidance to support effective implementation of ESSA, providing examples of evidence-based approaches to drive student achievement including ways to address chronic absenteeism, provide high-quality tutoring, and expand afterschool and summer learning programs. The guidance is open for public comment until October 4, 2024. 

 

USED Releases 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Program Guidance

USED released final guidance for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, outlining how communities can establish or expand academic enrichment activities, how funds are allocated to states, and how local entities can apply for grant funding.

 

Evidence-Based Strategies for Improving Student Literacy and Teaching Mathematics

new blog post from the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance provides a set of evidence-based practices to improve literacy and mathematics instruction in schools for students in grades PK-9.

Pathway2Careers Offers Free Resources Linking Math to Real-World Careers

AESA business partner Pathway2Careers (P2C) is dedicated to making math relevant by linking learners with real-world career pathways through its curriculum. P2C is offering schools free posters of the 16 career clusters that show students a wide variety of high-value careers, and access to accompanying lessons that integrate math into career contexts. This initiative helps enhance student engagement and promote equity in learning by connecting classroom instruction with career exploration. P2C handles all logistics, including shipping and providing lesson access, making it easier for schools to implement career-connected learning.
