AESA Foundation Welcomes its First Foundation Coordinator

Please join the AESA Foundation in welcoming Valentina (Tina) Viletto, JD (pictured above) to the new role of AESA Foundation Coordinator. We are excited to have her leadership of the foundation as she brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge.

 

Ms. Viletto joins AESA after serving for twelve years as the director of community and government relations for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit 23 (MCIU) and the coordinator of the MCIU Education Foundation in southeastern Pennsylvania. Ms. Viletto has provided legal, legislative, and policy guidance and worked with businesses, community members, and government leaders to advocate and foster support for education initiatives. Ms. Viletto has served as the PA statewide lead of the Strategic Communications Job-a-Like Committee and been a member of key state and national education associations' legislative committees. She currently is an active member of the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International Legislative Advocacy Committee and is a member and training consultant for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA).

 

She is the 2018 recipient of the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units’ Dr. Gary L. Miller Memorial Distinguished Service Award, the 2018 recipient of the Education Policy Leadership Center’s Leadership Program Alumni Award, and the 2013 recipient of the PSBA’s Timothy M. Allwein Advocacy Award.

 

Prior to joining the MCIU, Ms. Viletto was in private practice as an attorney and accountant, particularly focused on tax, estate, and nonprofit agencies. A former trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Tax Division, she earned her Juris Doctor at The American University, Washington College of Law and Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy at Villanova University.

K-12 Schools Betting that Cloud Providers Can Better Secure Their Data

This article features several organizations, including the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA).  The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency provides IT support for 18 entities, including school districts and charter schools in southwest Michigan. Six years ago, KRESA began moving its infrastructure to Amazon Web Services. Today, about 80 percent of the schools’ applications and data are hosted in the cloud. KRESA embraced the cloud to reduce costs, bolster security, and improve uptime, reliability and scalability, says Michael Coats, KRESA’s IT infrastructure manager.

The Reading Leaders Book Club! 

As lifelong readers and leaders, we all know the importance of reading and literacy, well beyond the pre-k12 classroom where it is often assigned. Reading Leaders AESA Executive Director Dr. Joan Wade and Janelle Bailey invite you to join the AESA Reading Leaders Book Club.  The club meets every third Thursday of the month to discuss the latest book.
