Happy Thanksgiving
from AESA

As the leaves turn golden and the air gets crisper, Thanksgiving is upon us once again. This season, more than ever, we find ourselves reflecting on the countless reasons we have to be thankful. At the heart of our gratitude is you, our dedicated members, who tirelessly serve educators and children across the United States.

Your commitment and passion are the cornerstones that make our collective efforts so impactful. Whether you're a teacher shaping young minds, an administrator ensuring the smooth operation of our educational institutions, or a support staff member who often works behind the scenes, your contributions are invaluable. Each of you plays a vital role in nurturing and guiding the next generation.

This Thanksgiving, we want to acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary work you do. It's because of your dedication that our educational service agencies continue to evolve and excel. You inspire us with your unwavering resolve to make a difference in the lives of educators and students alike.

As we gather with our families and loved ones, let's also remember the larger family we are part of – the AESA community. Together, we are making strides towards a brighter future for education in America. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are immensely grateful for each and every one of you.

So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. May this Thanksgiving bring you joy, peace, and a well-deserved break to recharge and celebrate the fruits of your labor.

Happy Thanksgiving!

AESA Joins Six National Organizations in Joint Letter Opposing House FY24 Funding Bill

AESA joined six national education associations in a letter to the House of Representatives expressing STRONG OPPOSITION to the Republican FY24 funding proposal, a bill that includes deep cuts to education and an 80% reduction to Title I. You can read the full letter here.

FY2024: Avoiding a Shutdown But Still Not Funded

In a whirlwind of activity last Tuesday, the House passed (in a bipartisan manner) a continuing resolution (CR) that extends government funding at current levels for four appropriations bills through January 18 and for the other eight through February 2. Our slice of the pie—LHHS—is in the batch that expires in February.  CR now heads to the Senate, where Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has said he and the White House agree with the bill. This action avoids a federal shutdown but still leaves Congress without a final appropriations package.

The House also debated more than 100 amendments to the fiscal year (FY) 2024 Labor-HHS-Education bill. We do not weigh in on the amendments because there is not one, that if adopted, would have us support the overall bill. We will continue to monitor the FY24 appropriations package and keep you posted!

AESA Supports Reauthorization of Secure Rural Schools Program

AESA joined AASA, NREA, and NREAC in a  joint letter to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, urging them to support the Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act of 2023 (S 2581). The bill was scheduled for mark up in committee on Nov 16.

Business Partner News from Good-Lite

"One out of every four school-age children may be harboring an undetected vision issue that has the potential to hinder their learning abilities. This can affect a diverse spectrum of students, ranging from those who are academically talented but underachieving to those struggling with moderate to severe learning challenges."

As service agencies, you shoulder a tremendous responsibility to offer a comprehensive array of services to schools. Often, vision and hearing screenings tend to be relegated to the bottom of the priority list. Conventional methods involve using analog charts, maintaining handwritten records, and extensive personnel hours for completion. Due to this significant burden, many students remain unscreened. However, there is now a superior solution available.

Introducing GLD-Vision, a cutting-edge, 100% online, paperless, automated screening technology that has been medically validated to address vision-related challenges that can impede academic performance. This system is fully compliant with HIPAA and FERPA regulations, requires no specialized training, and can complete a comprehensive visual assessment of a student in less than three minutes. Its robust reporting capabilities empower schools to focus on students in need of referrals, while aggregate data analysis facilitates compliance with state mandates.
